Shema J. Mathew, M.D.
Dr Shema Mathew received her medical degree from Stanley Medical College, Madras, India. She completed a residency in neurology at the State University of New York at Stony Brook. She completed her fellowship in clinical neurophysiology at the National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, Maryland. She is board certified in neurology and she is a member of the American Association of Neuromuscular Diseases and Electrodiagnostic Medicine.
Dr Mathew's practice mainly consists of comprehensive neurological exams and meticulous performance of nerve conduction studies and EMG. After obtaining accurate information from the testing, patients are referred for appropriate treatment to specialists, such as orthopedic surgeons and neurosurgeons. Sometimes cases that are of research interest, as well as complicated cases, are referred to the NINDS division at the National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, MD. Dr Mathew also extends her services in Electrodiagnostic Medicine to do collaborative work with The Spine Center at Holy Cross Hospital in Silverspring, Maryland.
